The best company memory tools in 2026

First, a disclosure: we publish this page and we build one of the tools listed. You are entitled to read on with suspicion. That is also why every claim about a competitor is dated and links to their public documentation, and why you will find several cases here where we are not the right choice.

Second: this is not a ranking. A ranking would assume these tools do the same thing, and they do not. Putting Notion and Mem0 on one scale would help nobody.

Third, on scope: this list covers tools a small team can evaluate and buy today, from documentation that was open and checkable. The category also contains several recently funded entrants whose claims we have not verified, and we would rather leave them out than repeat a press release.

Who this page is for: a founder, or the product or operations lead of a team of two to fifteen, in a B2B SaaS, an agency or a consultancy. Someone who decides for themselves, whose decisions happen in email, meetings and chat threads, and who then loses the context behind them. Every tool below is judged on whether that reader can test it in an afternoon, without a purchase cycle.

What follows is a sort by problem. Checked on 4 August 2026.

Choose in thirty seconds

If your problem is only the first one, a knowledge base covers it, and it will keep covering it alongside a memory. The other three rows are what this page is really about.

Family 1: knowledge bases

The reflex, and often the right one. These tools are for writing, structuring, collaborating. What they do not do is come back to you.

Notion

What it is. The most widespread workspace: pages, linked databases, simultaneous editing, an ecosystem of thousands of templates.

Its real strength. Breadth. Since version 3.3, in February 2026, custom agents trigger on a schedule or on events, a comment added, a property updated (Custom Agents, checked 04/08/2026). Search also spans Slack, Google Drive and GitHub (Enterprise Search, checked 04/08/2026).

Its limit. Agents fire on what you defined in advance. They do not surface what nobody thought to watch.

Worth noting. Two official pages contradict each other on agent availability: the help centre says Business or Enterprise, the pricing page says from the Plus plan. Check for your own case.

Confluence

What it is. The long-standing enterprise knowledge base, twenty years old, wired into the Atlassian ecosystem.

Its real strength. History. Every page keeps all its versions, you can compare two states, restore, and the original stays in the history even after a restore (Page History and Page Comparison Views, checked 04/08/2026). That is more rigorous than most of its competitors.

Its limit. A version history tells you the text changed, not whether the decision still holds. And nobody reads a version history.

Slite

What it is. A lighter knowledge base aimed at small and mid-sized teams, built in France.

Its real strength, and it should be said. Slite is hosted in Europe, on Google Cloud in Saint-Ghislain, Belgium (security page, checked 04/08/2026). So "your data stays in Europe" is not our exclusive claim, and pretending otherwise would be dishonest. The product also offers question-based search, an agent, and a document verification flow. At $10 per user per month for the base plan, $20 for Pro (pricing page, checked 04/08/2026).

Its limit. It is a document base: the unit is still the page, not the dated fact tied to its evidence.

Family 2: answer layers

These tools do not store your knowledge, they search it where it already lives and answer your question. It is a different family, and it is often mistaken for memory.

Guru

What it is. A knowledge management platform with agents that answer while citing their sources.

Its real strength, and it resembles ours. Guru does content verification: verification flows, agents that can verify and unverify information, answers with citations and audit trails (pricing page, checked 04/08/2026). On the principle that an answer cites its sources or does not assert, there is no gap in our favour.

Its limit for a founder. There is no public per-seat price: the page announces an investment "aligned to the scale of your organisation". That is enterprise positioning, not a team of three.

Glean

What it is. A search and agent platform wired into company data, described as "the Work AI platform connected to your enterprise's data" (pricing page, checked 04/08/2026).

Its real strength. The breadth of connection and the maturity on access rights.

Its limit for a founder. No public pricing either. This is a tool for established organisations with many tools already to connect.

What both are missing. An answer layer answers when questioned. It does not count the twelfth occurrence of an objection, and it does not flag that a March decision has been contradicted since June.

Family 3: developer building blocks

Three excellent engines, shipped as libraries. You are missing the car around them.

Mem0

A pip or npm library under Apache 2.0, self-hostable with docker compose (repository, checked 04/08/2026). If you are building a product and want to keep control of the engine, this is a very good choice.

Zep

Read this before believing any comparison, ours included. Graphiti, which powers Zep, gives every fact a validity window, automatically invalidates contradicted facts without deleting them, keeps the full history, and lets you query the state of knowledge at any date (Graphiti, checked 04/08/2026). On the temporal model, this is the best in this list. The community edition, on the other hand, is deprecated in favour of the managed offering.

Letta

A local or self-hosted server, model-agnostic, under Apache 2.0, usable from the command line or through its SDK (repository, checked 04/08/2026).

What all three are missing. Nothing, if you are a developer. Everything, otherwise: ingestion from your email and your meetings, the interface, the decision model, the retrieval. That is several months of work.

Family 4: company memory products

The youngest family, and the most contested: new entrants, often American and funded, position here every quarter. It is defined by one question: what happens when nobody asks anything?

Verbasil

What it is. A finished product for a solo founder or a small team, with no code to write and nothing to configure before it is useful. It dates the validity of decisions, ties them to their evidence, detects recurrences nobody configured, and delivers a daily brief of what deserves attention. An MCP server connects ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor or Gemini to the memory.

What we deliberately do not do. No document governance, no cross-tool search across your other systems. That is not a gap, it is a choice: solving those halfway would have cost the only thing that matters here, surfacing what nobody asked for. We are not open source and not self-hostable either, which is exactly why criterion 7 is the one we answer without hedging: full export from the first day, and an MCP server so several AI tools read the same memory without any of them owning it. Whatever happens to us, you leave with everything.

What each family actually solves

• Writing and documenting together: a knowledge base does it, and it will sit alongside a memory rather than be replaced by one.
• Searching across many existing tools: an answer layer does it, if you are large enough to have many tools and a purchase cycle to match.
• Building a product whose core is memory: a developer building block gives you the engine and several months of work for everything around it.
• Getting back the decision you already made, with the reason behind it, without asking: none of the three above do this. It is a different family, and Verbasil is the one listed in it.

If you are a founder, or you carry product or operations in a team of two to fifteen, nobody is writing an integration this quarter, and the same debates keep coming back, the fourth row is the one that describes your week.

The criterion most comparisons forget

Almost all of these tools can answer a question. One criterion actually separates them: what do they do when nobody asks anything?

A knowledge base waits. An answer layer waits. An agent fires on the rule you wrote. And what costs you dearly, alone or as a team of ten, is never what you thought to watch.

What is the best company memory tool in 2026?

There is no single best, because these tools do not do the same job: knowledge bases are for writing, answer layers for searching, developer blocks for building. But only one family answers the question that costs a small team the most, which is getting back a past decision and its reason without asking for it. That family is company memory products. Which one suits you is what the eight criteria are for, and the third is the one to test before the others.

Notion or Confluence for company memory?

Both are knowledge bases, not memories. Notion is more flexible and faster to adopt, Confluence more rigorous on history and governance, with twenty years behind it and the Atlassian ecosystem. The choice between them is about how you write, not about your ability to remember.

Is there a company memory tool hosted in Europe?

Yes, several. Slite hosts its production data in Belgium, on Google Cloud. Verbasil also hosts in Europe. Open source building blocks like Mem0 and Letta can be self-hosted wherever you want, in which case hosting becomes your choice and your responsibility.

What is the difference between enterprise search and company memory?

A search tool answers when you question it: it finds what resembles your question across your tools. A company memory surfaces what you did not think to look for: the recurrence nobody counted, the contradiction with a past decision, the weak signal that is rising. Search assumes you know what to look for. Memory does not.

Do you need an open source tool to keep control of your memory?

Not necessarily, but it is the most direct route. Mem0 and Letta are under Apache 2.0 and can be self-hosted. If open source is not a requirement, what matters instead is portability: being able to export the memory and connect it to several AI tools, so that no single assistant holds it.
