How do I export my memory?

Your data is yours, and being able to leave with it is part of what makes the tool acceptable. Export runs on its own, without going through us.

The steps

  1. Open your memory's Settings.
  2. Go to the Export section.
  3. Pick the scope: this memory alone, or every memory you can read.
  4. Pick the format: JSON or Markdown.
  5. Confirm. The download only starts after that confirmation, never on the first click.

Which format for what

JSON keeps the structure: the objects, their links, their dates. Pick it to feed another system, to archive, or to process with a tool.

Markdown keeps the readability: the file opens and reads as is, with no tooling. Pick it to re-read, to hand to someone, or to drop into a documentation space.

What the export contains

What you can read, and nothing else. Export applies the same access scope as the screen: it does not become a back door into memories you cannot reach.

Two consequences worth knowing:

  • An organization export does not carry personal spaces, which stay outside every organization view.
  • Every export is logged. On a shared memory, taking the content out leaves a trace, which is the normal counterpart of being able to do it unaided.

Didn't work?

  • The file does not download. The download starts on confirmation, not on the button: check that the confirmation dialog is not waiting on you, then your browser's download blocking.
  • Things are missing. Export only returns what you have access to. In a team, a restricted memory you are not a member of will not be there.
  • You wanted everything and got one memory. Run it again with the "every memory I can read" scope.

FAQ

Is the export complete?

It delivers the memory's content, table by table, over an established list of fields. That framing is deliberate: it stops a technical column added one day from being published without anyone deciding so.

Can I export automatically, on a schedule?

Export is a manual action from Settings. For a regular archiving need, write to us.

Does deleting my account delete my exports?

No. A downloaded file is on your side, out of the product's reach. Protecting it is also on you.
