What did my import create?
Uploading something without seeing what becomes of it is the moment you doubt the tool most. The answer is always in the same place.
Where to look
- Open Sources.
- Find the source you just uploaded.
- Open it: it lists what was drawn from it.
Three possible cases, each meaning something different.
Case 1: the source lists pending items
This is the normal case. The extracted items are waiting for your review before entering the memory. See Approving or rejecting a proposal.
Case 2: the source is there, its list is empty
The source was read and held nothing extractable. A brochure, a standard contract, a deck: nobody decides anything in them. This is not a failure. See What should I import.
Case 3: one note produced several items
Often taken as a defect, this is almost always right. A ten-line meeting note routinely holds three distinct commitments: a decision, a follow-up, a deadline. Splitting them lets you handle, date and close them independently.
If the split feels too fine, keep what belongs and archive the rest: that is a review step, not a bug fix.
Didn't work?
- The source does not appear at all. The upload did not go through: try again, and check the format. See Which file formats are supported.
- The source is there but nothing has moved for several minutes. Reload the page; extraction usually takes under a minute.
- You approved but cannot find anything. Check the right columns before concluding. See The states of a decision.
FAQ
Can I delete a source and what it produced?
A source can be removed. Items drawn from it then lose a piece of evidence, which can lower an evidence level.
Why are some passages ignored?
Verbasil looks for decisions, commitments, learnings and recurrences. A sentence carrying none is read without producing anything, and that is deliberate: retaining everything would amount to retaining nothing.
Do two sources saying the same thing create two items?
They can produce two proposals. Keep the better-worded one: the second source remains a piece of evidence.
